Beginner & General Classes

Overview of Courses & Programs

The NSW School of Massage has been providing specialist massage training from beginner classes right through to professional level qualifications for over 25 years. You will enjoy classes that are hands-on, fun and supportive.

Our beginner massage courses aim to get you massaging from the very first class. And don’t forget that in most classes you also receive a massage too!

As part of each hands-on massage course, you will be required to do a certain number of clinic hours to achieve your certificate of completion. In this clinic you get to massage the public under the supervision of a trainer.  This Student Clinic provides a secure and safe environment where you will be able to develop your skills and build confidence under the close supervision.

Additional General Interest Massage Courses

Additional general interest courses are available  to broaden you massage skills and techniques. These indude:

AROMATHERAPY

This course has been developed for health professionals working in the massage therapy field or those involved in health care covering the practical, therapeutic and psychological aspects of aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is an ancient science, which has been used throughout history in the medical practices of the world's great civilisations. Essential oils are the Aromatherapists tools of trade. They are pure essences extracted from the roots, flowers and leaves of plants and have their own unique properties based on complex chemical structures. Massage is the most effective medium of application for essential oils. The skin, the body's largest organ, absorbs them and then distributes them via the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Specific massage techniques for the face and body will be taught which combine shiatsu pressure points and lymphatic drainage. Other methods of application will also be discussed. Cost $675

ZEN SHIATSU

Zen Shiatsu is a deeply effective style of shiatsu healing developed by the Japanese Master, Shizuto Masunaga. In a Zen Shiatsu treatment the vital channels or Meridians carrying our ki (chi or prana or 'life force') are pressed with the fingers, palms, elbows, knees or feet. This releases any stagnation in the body, which may be the cause of ill health, and the body begins to function again as it should in a healthy and prosperous way. Students will also gain a working knowledge of the location of each Meridian on the body and learn some tsubo points on each Meridian pathway useful for treating specific conditions. At the end of the course students should be able to implement an effective general shiatsu treatment following the fundamental procedures of the Zen Shiatsu schooland raise their understanding and experience of health and healing through the principles of oriental medical practice. A six week course of Ki Yoga asanas or stretches will be run in conjunction with the course as an additional option for students. Cost $675

REFLEXOLOGY

The art of reflexology can be dated back to Ancient Egypt, India and China. It is based on principles that reflex and tension areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms. The program will include clinical situations for practicing your new skills under lecturer supervision. Cost $675

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

During pregnancy a woman's body undergoes many changes, some of them stressful and uncomfortable. Massage is a perfect way to reduce stress and promote general well-being. This program has been developed to teach students massage techniques to use during pregnancy that can reduce peripheral swelling, help to prevent insomnia, reduce muscle cramps and back pain, and soothe the nervous system. The program will include clinical situations for practicing your new skills under lecturer supervision. Cost $675

TUI NA

Tui Na massage is an ancient healing art of Traditional Chinese Medicine which has been practiced in China for over 4000 years. It is used to treat conditions that in western medicine ordinarily would require a physiotherapist, a chiropractor or an osteopath. Tui Na not only works on the muscles and joints, but also at a deeper level, affecting the flow of vital life energy in the body referred to as "Qi" (pronounced "chee"). Cost $675
